Bagerhat, Feb 3 (UNB) - At least 15 people were killed in attacks by the tigers in the Sundarbans, the largest mangrove forest in the world, in last two months.
Apart from this, some 10 people, including woodcutters, received injuries in the attacks by the tigers during this period.
Nine of the dead were identified as Shahidul Islam, 33, Samad Dhali, 30, Kuddus, 25, Jalil, 37, Salam, 42, Farid, 20, Amin Mistry, 38, Nurul Islam, 30, and Munsur 35.
Most of the people who fell prey to the tigers had long been involved in smuggling out forest resources from the Sundarbans and fishing shrimp fry in the river Pashur defying the government ban.
At present, smuggling of forest resources, including woods and wild animals, is on rise in the Sundarbans due to inaction of the law enforcers, locals alleged.
