Bagerhat, Mar 16 (UNB)- Some 19 shops were gutted in a devastating fire at Kalikabari bazaar in Morelganj upazila here early today (Friday).
Local people said the fire broke out at about 1am from an oven of a sweetmeat shop belonging to one Abdul Gaffar and soon engulfed other shops in the bazaar leaving five people injured.
The loss was estimated at about Tk 50 lakh.
Local people brought the blaze under control after two hours of frantic efforts.
One of the injured, identified as Selim Shikder Tuku, was admitted to Morelganj Health Complex.
State Minister for Social Welfare Dr Mozammel Hossain visited the spot this morning.
