          Bagerhat, Apr 21 (UNB) - Boro production in the
          district appears to surpass its target due to favorable weather and
          easy availability of fertilizer. 
           
          
          
           
          Farmers have already embarked on harvesting boro
          paddy in all upazilas of the district with an estimated output target
          of 1.2 metric tons per hectare. 
           
          
          
           
          Deputy Director of Agriculture Extension
          Department Rafiqul Islam said boro paddy was cultivated on 21,035
          hectares of land in the disrict against the target of 16,610 hectares. 
           
          
          
           
          The crop gathering is now going on in full swing
          and is likely to be completed by the end of May. 
           
          
          
           
          Meanwhile, the Agriculture Extension Department
          has taken up a program to plant Sojne, a nutritious and delicious
          vegetable, in the district. 
           
          
          
           
          Under the program, Sojne saplings will be planted
          on all barren lands alongside homesteads, roads and highways of the
          district. 
           
          
          
           
          To popularize the cultivation of Sojne, the
          department has already planted 2500 saplings alongside a number of
          roads of the district.
