May 6 (UNB) – A housewife was beaten to death for dowry allegedly by
her husband at South Kalikabari village in Betagi upazila on Monday.
The
victim was identified as Lucky Begum, 21, daughter of Amzad Ali of
Kagirabad village of the same upazilla.
According
to a case filed with local police, the husband Jalal tortured Lucky
with a rod with the help of his family members after having a quarrel
with his wife.
After
the killing, they allegedly hanged the body from the ceiling of the
house to establish the murder as a suicide.
Later,
police went to the spot, recovered the body and sent it for
postmortem. Jalal and other accused fled away to avert police arrest.
Police
said Jalal used to torture his wife demanding dowry since they got
married two and half years back.
