Barguna,
July 3 (UNB) – When the government decided to publish the draft
voter list on July 18, residents of a remote coastal village in the
district seem to be left out of it as they could not yet register
their names for want of forms.
The
residents of Nidrarchar village in Sonakata union, led by UP member
Kabir Akon, came to the local press club on Sunday and alleged that
the names of several hundred eligible voters of 300 families in the
village have not yet been enlisted as voters for lack of forms.
The
said their repeated appeals to the concerned officials and enumerators
fell into the deaf ear.
When
contacted, the district election officer said the concerned officers
would go to the village and register the names of eligible voters.
However,
the eligible voters who were left out would be able to register their
names in the voter list by applying to the revising authority from
July 18 to August 3.
Another
report adds: Deputy Minister for Food Dhirendra Dev Nath Sahmbhu
handed a cehque of Tk 1
lakh to the local press club authority on behalf of Chief Whip Abul
Hasanat Abdullah at a simple ceremony on Sunday.
At
the function, Deputy Commissioner of the district also gave a cheque
of Tk 50,000 to the press club.
