Chandpur,
June 20 (UNB) – Inmates of a local government orphanage today
stopped taking meals supplied by the authority protesting
“corruption and irregularity”.
Many
of the 216 orphans fell sick after they went on the hunger strike this
morning.
They
alleged that the management of Divisional Government Orphanage does
not provide them with adequate meals, clothes, soap, oil and
educational materials as per schedule.
The
strike would continue until the management resolves their problems,
they said.
Deputy
Director of the orphanage Mohammad Ali Mortuza, now on a weeklong
leave, was not available for comment. “We’ve tried to convince the
children. But we’ve nothing to do if they do not take their
meals,” said A Noor, a teacher, who is now in charge of the child
home.
