Chapainawabganj,
May 6 (UNB) – A total of 2,083 metric tons of wheat was procured
till April 30 in the district under the current government procurement
drive.
The
drive began on April 4 with a target of buying 4,655 mts of wheat at
the rate of Tk 8.90 per kg through five purchasing centres by June
next.
The
purchase centres were established in Sadar, Shibganj, Gomestapur,
Nachol and Bholahat upazila.
As
the government purchasing rate is higher than the market price,
cultivators of the district this year showed more interest to sell
their crops to these centres.
Local
Food Department officials said they expect fulfillment of the
procurement target before June.
According
to Agriculture Department, the district experienced a bumper
production of wheat last season with a total of 21,000 hectares of
land brought under its cultivation.
