Chittagong, Jan 19 (UNB) – A court here Thursday sentenced two people to different jail terms in a snatching case filed under the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Court sources said Liton Chowdhury was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment and fined Tk 25,000 while Fazle Atahar Babu alias Hiron Babu to five years RI and fined Tk 25,000.
Besides, they will have to suffer three months more RI if they fail to pay the fine.
According to the prosecution, the accused snatched Tk 2,200 from one Khan Mohammad Minhaj on July 3, 2000 while he was returning home from city’s Mohsin College.
Police arrested the two trying to snatch purses from passersby near Kapajgola Bridge in the city on July 11.
After examining the witnesses and records, Judge ANM Bashir Ullah pronounced the verdict.
