          Comilla,
Dec 18 (UNB0 – Despite bumper production of Aman paddy in the
district farmers are suffering from frustration due to low price and
shortage of buyers of their produce in the market.

          According
to Agriculture Extension Department (AED), both transplanted and
broadcast Aman were cultivated on over 1.49 lakh hectares land in 12
upazilas of the district with output target of over 2.83 lakh mts this
          year.

          Of
the total, high yielding variety of transplanted Aman was cultivated
on 96,612 hectares land while local variety on 14,163 hectares.
Broadcast aman was also cultivated on 38,770 hectares.

          But
the farmers have been facing problem with their produce, as the price
in the market is lower than the production cost.

          The
growers urged the concerned authority to open Aman procurement centers
in the upazilas to ensure fair price of the paddy.
