          Dhaka,
May 20 (UNB) – Two Dhaka University correspondents of two national
dailies were allegedly beaten up by a hall unit leader of Pro-Awami
Chhatra League (BCL) on the campus today.

          The
victims were Tanveer Mahmud of the Bangladesh Observer and Mahbub
Zaman Nahid of the Daily Star.

          Witnesses
said Mazharul Islam Kajol, general secretary of Sergeant Zahurul Huq
Hall of Dhaka University, and his accomplices -- Miron of Zahurul Huq
Hall and Zahid of Haji Mohsin Hall -- beat up them over a trifle
matter even after they gave their identity.

          They
also tried to take away Nahid to their hall.

          Kajol
also hurled abuses towards the journalists, Nahid told UNB.

          The
incident ensued when Kajol asked Tanveer to clear the way for him amid
crowds of students at the western gate of Arts Building. At that
moment Parbatya Chattagram Jana Sanghati Samity chairman Shantu Larma
was watching a procession of Paharai Chhatra Parisad standing at the
          gate.

          The
journalists filed a written complaint with the DU Vice Chancellor Prof

committee to probe the matter. The committee already issued a show
          cause notice against Kajol.
