Dhaka,
May 20 (UNB) – Police arrested Mosharraf Hossain Raza, one of the
five members of the so-called “five star group”, who allegedly
used to control tenders of “Nagar Bhaban” using arms and political
backing.
Raza
and four other members of his “five star group” were earlier
blacklisted in “Nagar Bhaban” by the mayor for their involvement
in terrorism inside the Nagar Bhaban. Mayor Mohammad Hanif also asked
the Dhaka Metropolitan Police to take action against them.
A
team of detective branch police raided Raza’s residence at Kalabagan
lake circus early today (Saturday) and arrested him.
Later,
he was sent to the jail giving one-month detention.
Although there are several cases, including murder, against
him, police arrested him under section 54 of CrPc.
Mosharraf
Hossain Raza, a former Chhatra League Leader, hails from Agailjhara in
Gouranadi of Barisal.
Raza,
the former general secretary of Zahurul Haq Hall students union of
Dhaka University, was suspended from BCL following the killing of
another BCL leader Zakir in Jagannath Hall premises in 1992.
Later,
Raza engaged himself with the business and formed the group styled as
“Five Star Group” in Nagar Bhaban.
The
other members of the group are: Iqbal Hosain Apu, Anwar Hosain,
Shahabuddin Farazi and Maostaq Ahmed Sentu alias Kala Sentu, all the
former and incumbent members of ruling party student front, BCL.
