Dhaka, May 30 (UNB) – Although some rivers in the Meghna basin receded, flood situation in the greater Sylhet region is likely to remain unchanged in the next 24 hours till 9 am tomorrow (Wednesday).

 

The Manu at Manu Railway Bridge and Moulvibazar, the Surma at Kanaighat and the Kushiyara at Amalshid and Sheola were still flowing above their respective danger levels.

 

A bulletin of Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC) said the Brahmaputra-Jamuna and Padma continued to rise at all points and the rivers in the Meghna basin showed rise and fall in last 24 hours till 9am today (Tuesday).

 

Out of 46 water level monitoring stations across the country, 29 points recorded rise while 10 marked fall during the period, the bulletin said.

 

In the last 24 hours, 92.3mm rainfall was recorded at Dinajpur, 75mm at Chilmari, 57mm at Dewanganj, 56.2mm at Jamalpur, 55.5mm at Kurigram, 54.5mm at Gaibandha, 48mm at Mymensingh, 42mm at Sunamganj, 39mm at Moulvibazar, 38.7mm at Bogra, 34.3mm at Dalia and 30mm at Manu Rly Bridge.

 

In the Surma basin, the Surma registered further rise by 11cm at Sylhet, 4cm at Sunamganj and slight rise at Kanaighat. The river at Kanaighat was flowing 59cm above danger level.

 

The Kushiyara registered further rise by 18cm at Amalshid and by 10cm at Sheola. The river was flowing above danger mark by 117cm at Amalshid and by 22cm at Sheola.

 

The Manu receded further by 58cm at Manu Rly Bridge and by 6cm at Moulvibazar. The river was still flowing above danger level by 36cm at Manu Rly Bridge and by 75cm at Moulvibazar.

 

The Khowai receded further by 34cm at Habiganj, the Someswari at Durgapur rose by 9cm, the Meghna at Bhairabazar registered further rise by 10cm, and the Gumti at Comilla receded further by 39cm.

 

In the Brahmaputra basin, the Brahmaputra registered further rise by 13cm at Noonkhawa and 6cm at Chilmari, the Jamuna rose by 27cm at Bahadurabad, 32cm at Sirajganj and 19cm at Aricha.

 

The Dharala, Teesta, Buriganga, Lakhya, Turag and Kaliganga also rose at different points.

 

In the Ganges basin, the Padma rose by 30cm at Pankha, 31cm at Rajshahi, 15cm at Goalundo and 9cm at Bhagyakul point while the Mahananda at Chapainawabganj rose by 21cm.
