Apr 11 (UNB) – Maize cultivation is getting popular in the district
as farmers find it giving better returns with more yields than other
          crops.

          Sources

the yield of paddy and it needs less fertilizer and irrigation as well
          as little care.

          During
the current season, some 500 acres will be brought under maize
cultivation in five thanas of the district -150
acres each in Sadar and Muksudpur thanas, 100 acres in Kotalipara, and
50 acres each in Kashiani and Tungipara.

sources informed that maize cultivation in the coming season is
expected to rise further, as the farmers are now more enthusiastic
          about its prospect.

          The
AED block supervisors are organizing demonstrations in different
thanas to encourage the farmers in cultivating maize, a source of
cereal particularly suitable for the children.

          Its
