          Gopalganj,
          Apr 12 (UNB)- Frequent natural calamities like flood, cyclone and
          river erosion forced many women in the district to sell their labors
          for survival. 
           
          
           
          In
          recent times a large number of unmarried girls and divorced women laborers
          are working in rice mills, brick fields, construction farms causing
          concern among the social welfare organizations. 
           
          
           
          Calamities
          destroyed the crops in the field, eroded the arable land and
          homesteads of the poor and marginal farmers rendering them poor and
          hapless. 
           
          
           
          For
          their survival and to support the families young girls and 
          abandoned women are compelled to work along with men. 
            
          A
          competent source of district social welfare department said some
          20,000 women are working as day laborers in five thanas of the
          district. 
           
          
           
          Local
          elite felt that these hapless women should be given soft loan for
          self-employment purposes.
