Jessore, Feb 7 (UNB)- The rate of literacy has gone up by 14 percent and population by 20 percent in the district during the last 10 years.
According to the preliminary report of the current population census, held on January 23 to 27, the population increased to nearly 25 lakh from about 21.06 lakh in 1991 in the district.
It was the fourth census after the independence. This year the enumerators collected 28 data from the people.
According to the analysis of the current census the rate of population increase is 1.7 in the district as against 2.17 in 1991, while the literacy rose to 47 percent against 33.04 percent in 1991.
Official sources said the report of the census would be scrutinized in the current month while final report would be published six month later.
