          Jhenidah,
          June 14 (UNB)- A discussion meeting and a cultural function was held
          at the Narikelbaria Degree College here recently to mark the 101st
          death anniversary of national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.
          
           
           
          
           
          Speakers
          at the discussion recalled the contributions of the rebel poet in the
          independence struggle against the British colonial rule. They said his
          fiery writings inspired the people of the sub-continent to wage a
          relentless war imbued with patriotism. 
          
           
           
          
           
          They
          said the Bangalees inspired by the ideals of the rebel poet fought
          against the Pakistani occupation forces and achieved independence amid
          immense sacrifice.
          
           
           
          
           
          Presided
          over by the principal of the college Aminur Rahman, the function was
          also addressed by Deputy Commissioner M Shoebur Rahman, Zila Parisad
          secretary Matiur Rahman and TNO, Sadar upazila, Abdul Halim.
          
           
                      
           Later
          a cultural function was held with the participation of local artistes.
