May 2 (UNB) – A special court here has sentenced four people to
three years rigorous imprisonment in a timber smuggling case.
The
tribunal also fined the convicts -- Abul Mia, Nazrul Islam, Siddique
Mia and Ekram Hossain -- Tk 1,000 each, in default, to suffer two
months more RI.
According
to prosecution, river police arrested the accused along with a
boatload of smuggled timbers from near Bishurikona village in Mitamoin
thana on January 8, 1998.
After
examining the records and witnesses, the Judge handed down the verdict
on Sunday.
