          Apr 27 (UNB)- Despite strict law the demand for dowry has increased
          manifold raising worries of the parents of marriageable daughters. 
           
          
          
           
          Muhammad
          Ali, a school teacher, said parents of bridegroom are these days
          openly demanding dowry from the parents of the brides. 
           
          
          
           
          Abdus
          Sattar of Jhudia union in Sadar upzila, father of three marriageable
          daughters, said he could not give marriage to the daughters as parents
          of the prospective bridegrooms were demanding big amount in cash and
          household gadgets as well in dowry. 
           
          
          
           
          A
          college teacher Abul Hossain said mere law would not solve the dowry
          problem. A social revolution has to be built up against dowry. 
           
          
          
           
          Strict
          application of the law is also needed to get the society free from the
          dowry disease, said a banker.
