Kushtia,
July 19 (UNB) – Cattle diseases that broke out in an epidemic form
have so far claimed 50 animals in the district, farmers said.
The
worst affected villages are Jagoti, Talbaria and Mirpur where at least
1000 cattle are suffering from the diseases.
The
disease known as ‘khura’ causes infection in jaws and hooves while
another disease popularly known as ‘golafula’ cripples the
animals.
Farmers
alleged that many cattle died owing to wrong treatment by the
unqualified veterinary doctors and field assistants of the district
Livestock department.
The
farmers alleged that local Livestock department did not take steps to
inoculate the cattle since the outbreak of the diseases.
The
district Livestock officer told UNB that the diseases have also
attacked cattle vaccinated earlier.
The
MED vaccine manufactured by Livestock Research Institute in Mohakhali
and imported from France have failed to prevent the cattle diseases,
he said adding that the germs of the diseases are being carried by
Indian cattle-heads smuggled into Bangladesh.
