          Laxmipur,
          June 14 (UNB)- As part of government programme to provide shelter to
          homeless people, 10,000 people of the district will be provided with
          homes through 24 Asrayan projects.
          
           
           
          
           
          Official
          sources said work on 163 barrack houses on 371 acres of khas land is
          progressing fast to rehabilitate 1,630 distressed, land less and river
          erosion affected families.
          
           
           
          
           
          Apart
          from the housing facilities, the government will also construct
          primary schools, community centers and bazars for the rehabilitated
          people.
          
           
           
          
           
          Besides,
          to create self-employment opportunities the government will impart
          training on poultry and dairy farming, cattle rearing, pisciculture
          and tailoring to the inhabitants of the projects.
          
           
           
          
           
          A
          team of Bangladesh Army has been taking part in constructing these
          barracks.
          
           
           
          
           
          Local
          people alleged that taking advantage of abject poverty and ignorance
          of the labourers local project implementing authorities are depriving
          them from their real wages. Having no alternative source of income the
          poor labourers are forced to work with wages fixed by the local
          authorities.
          
           
           
          
           
          They
          also alleged that large numbers of deserving families are being
          deprived of the allotment of the barrack houses, as they could not pay
          bribe to the concerned people. 
          
           
          
          They
          further alleged that each family is to pay Tk 1000 to Tk 2000 to the
          concerned authorities to have allotment. There are also allegations
          against the project committees for misappropriation of the allotted
          wheat.
