           Madaripur,
May 18 (UNB) – The number of livestock is declining with gradual
reduction of grazing grounds and acute shortage of fodder following
expansion of mechanised cultivation in the district.

          Farmers
are bringing fallow lands under IRRI-boro cultivation during the dry
season, which is giving good return.

          Besides,
grass in the farming land is being getting poisonous with extensive
use of pesticides and insecticides. The domestic animals fell victim
to various diseases even after taking the straw.

          Poor
cultivators do not have the capacity of buying balance fodder prepared
with grass, oilcake and husk, which are costly. As a result, they are
forced to sell their cattle heads.
