Magura,
Apr 22 (UNB) - A local court has sentenced a man life-term
imprisonment in a murder case.
The
convict, identified as Altaf Hossain Biswas of Binodpur village in
Mohammadpur Upazila, was also fined Tk 5,000, in default, to suffer
one year more rigorous imprisonment.
According
to prosecution, Altaf mercilessly beat up his wife Sabina Khatun (25)
over family feud on April 25,1995. She died on way to Sadar Hospital.
After
examining records and witnesses of the case, District and Sessions
Judge Azizul Haque awarded the punishment on Monday.
Another
report from Habiganj adds: A court here on the same day convicted
sentenced a man to 10 rigorous imprisonment for marrying an adolescent
girl after abduction.
The
convict identified as Mosharraf Hossain of Chaillatali village in
Longadu Upazila in Rangamati district was also finned Tk 10,000, in
default, to suffer one year more RI.
According
to the prosecution, Mosharraf abducted the 14-year girl, Kazi Sumi
Akter of Teliapara village in Madhabpur Upazila, on November 4,1997
and later wedded her.
A
case was filed with the police on November 14. After investigation
police submitted charge sheet against five people, including a woman.
After
examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Abdur
Rashid Mia gave the verdict absolving four others.
The
District and Sessions Judge on Tuesday also convicted a man and
sentenced him, in absentia, to three years RI in a smuggling case.
Abid
Ali, an auto-rickshaw driver of Baroghari village in Brahmanbaria
district, was fined Tk 10,000, in default to suffer six months more
RI.
BDR
personnel arrested Abid from Montala area in Madhabpur Upazila and
seized 200 kg Indian sugar with an auto-rickshaw on May 19,1998.
Havilder
Satyapriya Barua filed a case with the police, who later submitted a
charge-sheet against the smuggler.
After
examining the records and witnesses, the District and Sessions Judge
gave the verdict.
