Munshiganj,
Sept 4 (UNB) – Long uncertainty over a shelter for the 30-year-old
widow, Amena Begum and her four children has just ended.
Amena
Begum has a house of her own to live free of anxiety.
“I
thank Almighty Allah as my dream at last came true. I can’t express
my feelings,” said delighted Amena after taking over her house at
‘Chayabithi’ Asrayan Kendra.
DC
Mohammad Nurul Huq handed over the houses to Amena and 59 other
destitute families at Char Galgolia in Sirajdikhan upazila on Sunday.
Under
government’s Asrayan Project, Bangladesh Army’s East Bengal
Regiment has been constructing eight barracks on around 10 acres of
land since May to rehabilitate 80 families.
Six
barracks have already been completed, official sources said.
After
completion of another two barracks, they said, Prime Minister Sheikh
Hasina will formally hand over deeds to the rehabilitated families.
The
rehabilitated families would be provided with other facilities under
as a package program, which includes education, health, family
planning and employment opportunities, officials said.
Another
report from Gazipur says: Some 25 former sex workers living in Pubail
Vagrant Home here have been rehabilitated by providing them with jobs
at a garment factory in Narayanganj.
Earlier,
they were trained on industrial garment for six months, sources said.
