Mymensingh,
June 20 (UNB) – Train communications on the Dhaka-Mymensingh route,
linking northern region, were halted about five hours today (Tuesday)
by fish traders protesting extortionist attack on them.
Several
hundred fish traders, who used to take fish to capital Dhaka everyday
by train, blocked the route at Dhala station and squatted on the lines
waving red flags at about 7.30 am.
They
said the extortionists beat up some fish traders on a running train
near Kawraid station between Dhaka and Mymensingh Monday night as they
refused to pay them toll.
Later,
the angry traders withdrew the rail-blocks at 12.30pm at the assurance
of local administration and railway officials of taking steps against
the hooligans.
Four
trains, including two inter-city ones bound for Rajshahi and Dinajpur
and a Dhaka mail, remained stranded during the five-hour blockade,
railway sources said.
