Netrakona, June 23 (UNB) People have lost their confidence in the education offered by non-government high schools and colleges of the district as it falls short of standard.
According to District Education office, the standard of education in the schools and colleges has marked a fall due to numerous problems.
The problems that the educational institutions are now facing include shortage of classrooms and teachers, absence of libraries, inadequate furniture, lack of common rooms, playgrounds and modern laboratories.
Shortage of English and Math teachers in the schools and colleges has plunged the academic life of hundreds of students of the district into a deep uncertainty.
Another horrifying problem is the paucity of drinking water. Most of the schools, particularly in rural areas, have no tube-wells.
There are 209 non-government high schools and 17 colleges in 10 upazilas of the district, which are inadequate for a vast population of the region.
Its time for the government to take necessary steps to salvage the sinking education system of the district, said a collage principal wishing anonymity. |
