Nilphamari,
May 22 (UNB)- Two people were killed and another was injured in a
powerful bomb explosion in the house of a retired BDR commander in
Kishoreganj upazila Sunday night.
Another
explosive device lying in the same room was detonated today (Monday)
by army experts, police said.
Police
today arrested the retired BDR Nayek Subedar, Abdus Samad, from his
Hajipara residence in connection with the explosion at his home and
suspected that he might have foreign connections.
Police,
on information, ringed the rented residence of
Samad at night after the incident. Bomb experts from Syedpur
army cantonment came today, recovered the live hand grenade and
detonated it at a distance.
Police
also recovered 161 empty bullets from the spot that have “supposedly
been collected for making bullets”.
Samad
went on retirement five years back from his posting at Ramgarh in
Khagrachhari hill district and started living at Hajipara six months
ago. His house owner Delwar Hossain filed a case against him under the
Explosives Act with the Kishoreganj police.
A
three-member committee headed by Additional SP Aminul Huq has been
formed to investigate the blast.
“Samad
may be linked with a foreign secret service and the bombs and grenades
were brought for subversive acts,” police said about the suspected
motives.
