Apr 25 (UNB) – Revenue earning of Pabna Customs Excise and VAT
Department appears to surpass its target this year.
Officials
said the revenue income of the department continues to mark an upward
spiral for the last three years when it earned Tk 118.27 crore in
revenue.
They
said the department earned Tk 37.49 crore in 1996-97, Tk 48.40 crore
in 1997-98 and Tk 42.38 crore in 1997-98.
Of
the amount, Tk 92.38 crore were realized as VAT, Tk 12.73 crore as
supplementary duty and Tk 28.50 lakh as excise duty.
The
department realised Tk 33.79 crore during the first nine months of the
current fiscal against Tk 26.29 crore during the corresponding period
of the previous fiscal.
An
official said the revenue was collected mainly from medicine,
toiletries, construction firms, paper, sugar, cement and bidi sectors
with the highest amount of VAT coming from medicine and toiletries.
