          Panchagarh,
          Apr 29 (UNB) - There has been a bumper production of wheat in greater
          Dinajpur district, including Panchagarh, this year. 
            
          Deputy
          Director of District Agriculture Department Yasin Ali said the bumper
          production was due to timely rainfall, favourable weather condition
          and absence of pest attack. 
            
          Wheat
          on some 22,260 hectares of land was cultivated in five thanas of
          Panchagarh district this year with an output target of 55,650 metric
          tons. 
           
          
          
           
          Besides,
          some 90,000 hectares of additional lands against the target of 4.09
          lakh hectares were brought under wheat cultivation in the 16 northern
          districts with a production target of 6.43 lakh metric tons, another
          source said. 
            
          
           
          It
          said about 57,000 metric tons additional wheat was produced in the
          districts this year. 
           
          
          
           
          A
          farmer of Boda thana said he cultivated wheat on 10 bighas of land
          this year following a good harvest last year. Other farmers also
          echoed the same words for having a good harvest of wheat this year. 
             
          Meanwhile,
          the government has launched wheat procurement drive from April 6 in
          the district with a procurement target of 12,790 metric tons.
