          Panchagarh,
June 22 (UNB) – After having a bumper production this season farmers
in the district are facing problem due to the low market price of
          paddy.

          The
middlemen are controlling the price of paddy in local markets where
paddy is being sold between Tk 160 and 180 per maund.

          Agricultural
Extension Department sources said this season’s production target is
43,173 metric tons of paddy from 14,940 hectares of land in the
          district.

          The
farmers said they harvested a bumper production but are not getting
          fair prices for their produce.

          In
the entire northern region, the production target for this season is
20 lakh tons but the actual production is more than the target.

          On
the other hand the government has decided to procure 1.10 lakh tons of
paddy and 2.24 lakh tons of rice from the region.

          The
farmers of the district as well as other parts of the region will face
a setback if the government does not take necessary steps in this
          regard.
