Panchagarh,
June 28 (UNB)- Price hike of necessary ingredients in the local market
has been hampering the construction of houses in the public and
private sectors.
Official
sources said prices of bricks, rods, cement, CI sheets and other
construction materials have shot up abnormally.
Anisur
Rahman, a contractor of the district said at present they are to buy
per thousand bricks between Tk 2400 and Tk 2500 which is much higher
than they showed in tender schedule.
Like
previous years a section of dishonest traders hoarded the construction
materials to create artificial crisis in the market, he said adding
that as a result most of the government construction projects would
not be completed in time.
Meanwhile,
due to the slow pace of construction work of different projects a
large number of day labourers have been rendered jobless and passing
their days in great hardships.
