          Patuakhali,
May 24 (UNB)- Enrolment of some 25,000 people of char areas of
Golachipa upazila in the voter list has become uncertain in the face
of resistance by some influential ‘Jotedars’ (big landholders).

          Locals
alleged that the resistance was created for entering into the areas by
the men entrusted with preparing the voter list on the apprehension
that if the land less people of the char areas become voters they will
be entitled to apply for government khas land that mostly grabbed by
          the ‘Jotedars’.

          There
are some 100 hundred chars in the upazila with a population of about
half a lakh. In the face of resistance the personnel engaged in
preparing voter list were allegedly forced to stage comeback from many
char areas including Char Bangla and Char Nazir.

          The
matter was brought to the notice of State Minister for Textiles AKM
Jahangir Hossain during his recent visit to the upazila who also asked
the UNO to probe into the allegations.

          Meantime,
the UNO of the upazila asked AC (Land) to investigate into the matter
and suggest necessary measures in this regard.
