Apr 10 (UNB) – The number of tuberculosis (TB) patients is rising in
the district due to what the experts said malnutrition and pollution.
Civil
Surgeon’s office sources said about 95 per cent of the patients,
from the low-income group, come to the TB Clinic here with myco
bacterium tuberculosis germ.
About
5,064 TB patients were under treatment in the clinic in the first week
of April.
The
sources said 9,064 TB patients - 6,510 male and 2,554 female - were
registered with the clinic in five years till 1999.
Although
the number of TB patients has increased since 1995, but it decreased
in 1999 compared to the previous three years.
Some
1,810 TB patients were registered in 1999 compared to 755 in 1995,
2,360 in 1996, 2030 in 1997 and 2,109 in 1998.
