Satkhira, Mar 17 (UNB) – Owners of two electronic shops have allegedly been assembling television sets by setting up mini factories at Kalaroa upazila in the district.
Sources said Abdul Khaleque, owner of Lucky Electric and Shah Alam, owner of Alam Electric, have been engaged in bringing Indian TV parts illegally and assembling television sets with these parts for the last two years.
They made at least 150 television sets per month and sold those in neighbouring districts using the stickers of Sonny and National television companies through their appointed agents, sources said.
Black and white 14 inches television is being sold at Tk between 2000-2500 while Tk 3000-3500 for 17 inches set.
The people who bought these televisions were not given license, so the subscribers do not require pay money as renewal fee.
A police official of Kalaroa thana requesting anonymity told UNB that the owners have been carrying out their activities for long by giving a huge amount of bribe to high police officials.
People particularly living in rural areas bought this kind of television at cheaper rate. The villagers are interested to buy this television, as they do not have to pay money for renewal of license fee, the police official said.
When contacted, district Additional Police Super said they have received the allegation and are investigating into it. The owners of Lucky and Alam Electric termed the allegation as baseless.
