Sirajganj, Mar 18 (UNB) – Concern among motor vehicle owners in 16 northern districts is growing as the local markets have been swamped with diluted motor fuel.
A section of fuel traders in the districts have long been engaged in selling petrol mixing with kerosene in blind pursuit of profit.
The traders with the help of a section of oil depot employees openly dilute kerosene with petrol near Baghabari oil depot.
They reportedly make a profit of Tk 8.03 selling one litre of spurious petrol. Petrol is now selling at Tk 23.30 per litre while kerosene at Tk 15.27.
When contacted depot superintendents of Padma, Meghna and Jamuna oil companies acknowledged that kerosene was being mixed with petrol.
“None can stop such criminal business as they are very influential,” asserted one of the officials.
