Sunamganj,
July 3 (UNB) – Clearing and forwarding of goods in the frontier
Barochhara Customs Station in Tahirpur upazila remained suspended for
over a month, causing huge loss to the government exchequer in
revenue.
According
to competent sources, the government has already incurred a loss of Tk
8.91 crore in revenue due to the complications.
President
of Coal Importers Group Mosharraf Alam said the clearing and
forwarding of goods in the station remained suspended sine May 30
after the Ministry of Finance in a notification has made PSI on coal
import mandatory.
He
said the government instruction for PSI has rather slowed down the
process of clearing goods, compounding their miseries.
Witnesses
said a good number of trucks carrying imported goods from the Indian
state of Meghalaya remained stranded on no man’s land.
The
Barochhara-Charagaon Coal Importers Group urged the government to
exempt coal from the hazards of PSI and thus protect the livelihoods
of 10,000 people involved in coal import activities.
