Sylhet, Apr 12 (UNB)- The All Party Action Committee (APAC) opposing controversial naming of buildings and dormitories of Shah Jalal Science and Technology University brought out stick procession in the town on Tuesday.

APAC brought out the procession demanding renaming the buildings and dormitories after the saints in line with the name of the university and withdrawal of cases against its leaders.

The university remained closed for more than five months following disturbances arising out of naming the buildings and halls after Bangabandhu and Jahanara Imam.

Before the procession, APAC leaders at a rally at Court Point pledged to carry out the movement until realisation of their demand.

They told the rally that Foreign Minister Abdus Samad Azad was declared persona non grata in Sylhet as he stood against the popular demand and warned that if necessary similar action will be taken against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

District presidents of BNP, Jatiya Party and Muslim League MA Haq, Gias Uddin Ahmed and Salah Uddin Chowdhury and Jamat leader Dr Shafiqur Rahman spoke at the rally.
