May 8 (UNB) – Bangladesh Water Development Board is implementing a
gigantic project to protect boro paddy in the district from recurring
floods.
Official
sources said some 6670 metric tons of wheat would be spent for the
project in addition to Tk 80 lakh.
Under
the scheme, a 738-km long embankment was set up apart from installing
54 regulators, 22 sluice-pipes, 22 drain outlets and 164 irrigation
units in 22 haors.
Upon
completion of the project, paddy on 1.7 lakh hectares of land in the
district is expected to be saved from flooding.
