Sylhet, June 13 (UNB) – A mother and her three children were buried alive in landslide on their mud-house amid rain at Ranokeli Dakkhin village in Golapganj upazila early today.

Majia Begum, 28, her son Juned, 11, daughters Ruli, 7, and Ruma, 3, died instantly when the tragedy struck the poor family at about 2am while all were asleep.

Majia’s husband, Habib Ali, was injured as mud and water deluged their hillside home.

Meanwhile, some 3 lakh inhabitants of Goainghat, Companiganj, Jaintapur and Jakiganj upazilas have been marooned amid incessant rain coupled with onrush of hill waters in the last few days.

Croplands of some 70,000 hectares have also been submerged in the flash floods.

Some 50,000 day-labourers have become jobless as stone collection from the quarries stopped due to inclement weather.
