          Sylhet,
          July 17 (UNB) – A new river route has been opened to increase fuel
          supply in the district to meet the growing demand.
          
           
           
          
           
          Construction
          of a new jetty has already been completed on the bank of Surma river
          adjacent to the depot of Jamuna Oil Company in Sadar upazila costing
          Tk 1.50 crore.
          
           
           
          
           
          Expansion
          work of the Jamuna Oil depot is expected to be completed soon under
          the project taken in last fiscal year to increase the quantum of fuel
          in the depot.
          
           
           
          
           
          Official
          sources said the jetty was inaugurated with the supply of 5.34 lakh
          litre oil from Narayanganj Fotulla depot of the company through
          Shallow Craft Tanker on July 5. 
          
           
           
          
           
          They,
          however, said other oil companies will also be able to use the jetty
          for supplying fuel in the locality.
          
           
           
          
           
          At
          present, fuel is being supplied here from Eastern Refinery, the main
          supply centre in Chittagong, through mainly rail route but the supply
          often disrupts due to shortage of rail wagons and lack of smooth road
          communication creating a crisis.
          
           
           
          
           
          The
          sources said Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation has also taken
          initiative to increase the capacity of two other depots owned by its
          supplying companies Padma and Meghna.
