Thakurgaon,
Par 13 (UNB) – Despite a bountiful production of wheat, the
government has decided to procure only 19,000 mts of wheat from the
district this year.
According
to an estimate, the wheat production in the district may surpass 1.5
lakh metric tons this season. But the government decision to procure a
small amount of wheat has dampened the enthusiasm of the growers.
Meanwhile,
some influential people have stored a huge quantity of wheat to supply
it to government godowns, depriving the genuine farmers to sell their
produces to the government.
Various
peasant organizations demanded of the Food Department to take steps
for procuring at least 50,000 tons of wheat.
