Sangsad Bhaban (UNB) - The government has no plan at present to export gas, State Minister for Energy Prof Rafiqul Islam told Parliament today (Wednesday).
Replying to ruling party MPs Waziuddin Khan and Srimati Bharati Nandi, he said drilling of Sangu South-1 well of block 16 in the Bay is on, but the extraction of gas from Feni gas field remains suspended because of reduction of pressure in both the wells of this field.
The state minister said two new gas fields have been discovered recently - one is Bibiana gas field in Habiganj and the other in Moulvibazar. Both the gas fields are now under various surveys.
In reply to a question appearing in the name of Sarwar Jamal Nizam (BNP-Chittagong), he said present production of LPG is less than 5 per cent of the country’s requirement. There are two LPG plants in the country.
The Kailashtila plant produces 5,000 metric tons of LP gas while Eastern Refinery in Chittagong 16,000 metric tons annually.
Islam told Jalaluddin Talukdar (AL-Netrakona) that 9,985 kilometres of electric line have been extended during the current fiscal year across the country.
