Dhaka (UNB) – The government has contradicted the press report that some 1400 Bangladeshi workers would be deported from Malaysia.

Quoting Bangladesh Mission in Kuala Lumpur, Labour and Employment Ministry in a clarification yesterday said 810 Bangladeshi workers, now detained in Malaysian deportation camps on charges of unauthorised entry, overstay or using forged visas, are awaiting deportation.

As part of their regular hunt for unauthorised immigrants, Malaysian authorities detained those Bangladeshi workers in eight deportation camps and are making arrangement to deport them. Malaysian government will bear the deportation expenses, the handout said.

It said the Bangladesh Mission officials in Kuala Lumpur are in touch with the camps and issuing travel permits to those who do not have valid passports.

They have also requested the Malaysian authorities to send the detained Bangladeshis back home as early as possible.
