Dhaka (UNB) – Finance Minister Shah AMS Kibria has said the government’s funding to the Employment Bank would depend on its corruption-free operation and service reputation.

“The bank is financed with allocations from the national budget. So, the government will be encouraged in its funding if the bank operates in a corruption-free manner,” he told a conference of the bank’s managers and field level officials at a local hotel yesterday (Thursday).

Presided over by Employment Bank chairman M Maniruzzaman Khandaker, the conference was also addressed by its director advocate Abdul Mannan Khan and managing director M Nurul Islam.

Since its inception in 1998, the bank so far disbursed Tk 12.61 crore as loans through its 32 branches among unemployed youths to help them initiate self income-generating ventures.

Underlining the importance of the bank to engage the young generation in economic activities, the Finance Minister said the number of its branches would be raised to 100 within January next.

He said the youths, with the help of Employment Bank, would be able to stand on their own feet as well as contribute to increase the national productivity.

Kibria asked the officials of the Employment Bank to discharge their responsibilities with sincerity in order to contribute in changing the fate of the country’s young generation.

NGO Bureau director general Abu Tayeb, who is also a director of the Employment Bank, and managing directors of different banks were present.
