Terrorists must be hooted out from Adamjee Mills |

Dhaka (UNB) - A high-level meeting yesterday discussed recommendations for a purge of outsiders and terrorists from the trouble-torn Adamjee Jute Mills. The meeting at the Jute Ministry also discussed proposed trimming of manpower of the Asia's biggest jute industry and cost-cutting to lessen its recurring losses. These drastic measures have been recommended in a report prepared by the mill management and placed in yesterday's meeting, attended by lawmakers and high officials. State Minister for Jute AK Faezul Haq presided over the meeting, held against the backdrop of recent armed clashes in the mill compound following the retrenchment of some workers. "The meeting discussed elaborately productivity, commercial performance and development of financial management," said an official release. It said the meeting was organised to find out an urgent and realistic working policy for the development of mill management, increase in production, marketing, overall performance and law-and-order situation. The meeting also discussed the short-term recommendations submitted by the mill authority to solve the existing problems. Its recommendations include evicting illegal inhabitants from the mill areas and taking punitive actions against the listed terrorists and people creating anarchy, BMRE of the age-old machinery and trimming manpower for reduction of production cost. Addressing the meeting the State Minister sought cooperation of all in making the mill profitable through proper management. Present in the meeting among others were members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Jute Ministry Mohammad Emdadul Haq Bhuiyan and Goutam Chakrabarty, local MP AKM Shamim Osman, Jute Secretary AQM Quamrul Huda, BJMC Chairman Lt Col (retd) Abu Usman Chowdhury, Executive Director Adamjee Jute Mills Saidur Rahman Khan, CBA President Ruhul Amin Sardar, former CBA President Mohammad Rehan Uddin Rehan. |
