Dhaka (UNB)- Oil-rich Gulf state Kuwait is keen to expand its relations with Bangladesh in all fields by way of enhancing trade, commerce and investment.

The Kuwaiti Commerce Minister would visit Bangladesh on September 19 to explore more fields of trade and investment, a visiting delegation said here yesterday (Monday).

The indication came from the five-member parliamentary delegation called on Speaker Humayun Rasheed Chowdhury at his Sangsad Bhaban office yesterday (Monday) and also met government leaders.

Members of the team, led by Dr Abdul Muhsen Medej Al Medej, “gratefully acknowledged Bangladesh’s cooperation in freeing the country from Iraqi aggression during the Gulf War”.

They also recalled the contributions of expatriate Bangladeshis living in Kuwait in the reconstruction and development of their country.

The Bangladesh Speaker through the delegation urged Kuwait to employ more Bangladeshi workers in its reconstruction and development sectors.

Officials said the delegation, which arrived here Sunday on a two-day official visit to Bangladesh, also had “fruitful” meeting with members of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad.

The meeting reviewed the excellent relations that exist between the two brotherly countries and discussed matters of mutual interest as well as international issues and that of Islamic Ummah.

The delegation also called on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Abdul Matin Khasru at his office and the Deputy Speaker at State Guesthouse.

In course of talks the issue of payment of compensation by Iraq “for the wanton and extensive destruction caused by them during their aggression on Kuwait” came up.

Other members of the delegation are Abdulwahab Rashed Al Haroon, Rashed Saif Al Hujailan, Faisal Fahad Al Shaya and Hussain Ali Al Bahrani.
