Dhaka-- (UNB)- BNP has asked the government to reinstate the name of Gen Osmany, the Commander-in-Chief of the war of independence, to Fatullah Stadium in Narayanganj and warned against undermining the honour and dignity of the great freedom fighter. “Don’t try to play dirty game with everything. Thousands of freedom fighters and crores of freedom loving people will never accept such foul play,” city BNP president Sadek Hossain Khoka said yesterday directing at the government. Reading out a statement at a press conference at National Press Club, Khoka who is also a valiant freedom fighter said the construction work on the stadium at Fatullah was started during the BNP regime and it was named after Gen Osmany to show respect to his memory. The project of Narayenganj Osmany Stadium was taken up at a cost of Tk 16.26 crore and an amount of Tk 2 crore was allocated for it 1994-95 fiscal year. Khoka regretted that Awami League after coming to power dishonoured Commander in Chief of the independence war Gen Osmany in many ways, including changing the name of Osmany Stadium, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister about a month ago. Awami League is claiming itself a party that had initiated the independence war to gain politically. But, in fact, it has no respect for the valiant freedom fighters. The spirit of liberation war is now a mere political stunt of Awami League, he added. The City BNP president and convenor of the city All Party Action Council of the 4-party alliance asked the government to stop conspiracy against the heroic freedom fighters including Gen Osmany. “We shall not allow any conspiracy to succeed, ” he warned. MK Anwar, Nayeem Jahangir, Chowdhury Alam, Faruque Azam Birprotik, Sadek Ahmed Khan, Mainuddin Ahmed Manik and a number of other freedom fighters from Chittagong and Kushtia were present. |
