Dhaka, Oct 19 (UNB)- Touring Bangladesh national cricket team suffered a humiliating 7-wicket defeat against South Africa President’s XI in their first one-day encounter in Bloemfontein on Wednesday. Poor performance in batting, which is considered the strongest department of Bangladesh team, ascertained the test babes’ disgraceful defeat in the day-night limited over match at Goodyear Park. No Bangladesh batsman, except skipper Naimur Rahman Durjoy, could stand against the SA bowling. This was the third consecutive defeat in the Kenya-South Africa tour for Bangladesh, the latest member of cricket’s elite club, who will play their maiden test against India during November 10-14 in Dhaka. Bangladesh swallowed an 8-wicket defeat against England in the ICC Knockout Tournament in Kenya due to lackluster performances by the bowlers. Then the national team started their South Africa tour with a 82-run defeat against a provincial team in one-off four-day match at Kimberly showing poor batting performance in their second innings. On Wednesday, Bangladesh captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy won the toss and decided to bat first but his willow holders failed to make challenging total bundling out for 178 runs in 45.4 overs. Bangladesh made a disastrous start losing two wickets of opener Javed Omar Belim Gulla (6) and one down Habibul Bashar Sumon (0) in 14 runs. Al-Shahriar Rokon and former national skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul repaired the early damage making 68 runs in the fourth wicket stand. But after dismissal of Bulbul, who added 23 off 52 balls, Bangladesh fell into big trouble losing two quick wickets of Akram Khan (12) and Mushfiqur Rahman Babu (0) to read the scoreboard 83 for five. Opener Rokon, who made second team highest 38 runs off 53 balls with three boundaries, added 42 runs in the sixth wicket partnership with his captain. Skipper Naimur Rahman Durjoy was the top scorer for the touring side making 52 runs off 61 deliveries with three hits across the rope before falling victim of run out. Andre Nel was the most successful bowler for the home side picking up three wickets for 36 runs in 9.4 overs while Pretorius, Morkel and Langeldt took two wickets each. South Africa President’s XI reached the target making 181 runs losing three wickets with five balls to spare riding on a 104-run opening partnership between Mark Bruyns and Doug Watson. Left-arm veteran spinner Moni gave the first breakthrough for the touring team when M Bruyns was stumped by Khaled Masud Pilot making 55 runs off 77 balls with six hits across the rope. Another opener Watson made 39 runs off 94 balls, that included three boundaries, before being caught and bowled also by Enamul Haq Moni. The SA Invitation XI lost another quick wicket when one down J Trott back to the pavilion making 10 runs but the 54-run unbeaten fourth wicket association between J Ontong and D Benkenstein denied any hope for Bangladesh. South African national player Benkenstein, who led the President’s XI, remained not out with 44 runs off 45 balls featuring four boundaries and one over boundary while J Ontong added 23 off 60 balls. Moni finished his 10-over quota picking up two wickets for 32 runs while Habibul Bashar Sumon took one for 19 runs in his 3-over spell.
