Dhaka-- (UNB) - Bangladesh were white washed in South Africa swallowing a humiliating 202-run defeat against SA President's XI in the last one-day at Kingsmead in Durban on Monday. The miserable performance of the test babes in the first ever South Africa tour frustrated their hope to justify the honour as the 10th member of the test playing elite club. Bangladesh, who recorded their lowest ever total of 51 runs just a day before, were bundled out for 57 runs in 27.2 overs replying to the challenging total of 259 runs amassed by the homeside. Just emerging in the test cricket arena with a fabulous ambition, Bangladesh completed their month-long nightmare tourney in Kenya and South Africa with six consecutive defeats. The only victory they tasted in the tour was against Kenya in a warm-up match on September 28 prior to the ICC Knockout World Club match against England on October 5. Durjoy & Co. inspired the cricket-crazy fans at home batting brilliantly against the Britons in the Knockout Tournament but bowlers faded their success to concede an 8-wicket defeat in the match. The short two-week tour of South Africa intended to give the Bangladesh team valuable match practice prior to their maiden Test match against India has ended up as something of a disaster. The rookie test elite nation lost their all matches in South Africa because of their poor batting performance, which is marked the strongest department of the team. They batted well in the first innings in their opening match against a provincial team in one-off four-dayer but lost the match due to poor batting in the second innings. They failed to make any contest in the first limited-over match against South Africa President's XI due to their willow holders' failure and they batted foul in the last two limited over matches against the same opponents. In the third and last day-night one-day match on Monday lasted longer simply because the South Africans batted first, sent into by Bangladesh captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy. Bangladesh batsmen had no answer against the seam attack of Charl Willoughby and Mfuneko Ngam who wrecked the Bangladesh top order taking seven wickets. Former national skipper Akram Khan batted for 90 minutes to remain 10 not out off 61 balls and witness his team mates hurriedly returning to the dressing room one after another. Left-arm veteran batsman Enamul Haq Moni was the other Bangladeshi to reach double digit making 10 runs off 25 balls. Ngam finished his eight-over spell claiming 4 wickets conceding only 20 runs while Willoughby picked up 3 for 9 runs also in 8 overs. Earlier, the homeside piled up 259 for 5 in stipulated 50 overs with three fine half-centuries by Smith (56), Ahmed Amla (68) and Martin van Jaarsveld (62). Left-arm spinner Naimur Rahman Durjoy was the most successful bowler taking 3 for 45 runs in 9 overs while pacer Hasibul Hussain Shanta claimed 2 wickets for 33 runs in 8 overs. Bangladesh team is expected to return home on Wednesday. |
