Dhaka-- (UNB) – Bangladesh
Cricket Board (BCB) will soon decide the fate of its director of
development, South African Eddie Barlow, who is now wheel chair-bound
following a stroke. Talking to newsmen at the
Sonargaon Hotel lobby yesterday (Saturday), BCB president Saber Hossain
Chowdhury said he would meet Barlow soon to discuss his present
"physical and psychological condition." Test babe Bangladesh urgently
needs long-term coach to properly groom the national squad, he said. Replying to a question,
Chowdhury said the "virtually inactive" Barlow’s release would
not create any discord between Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the United
Cricket Board of South Africa (UCBSA). He told a questioner it is not
necessary to pick a new coach from Australia as has been done by Sri Lanka
and others. "We should give the job to a right man from any
country," he said. The BCB boss confirmed that
they would not change the stand-in coach Sarwar Imran during the inaugural
test, scheduled for Nov. 10-14. He was talking informally with
the sports reporters after a press briefing organized by BCB at the Pan
Pacific Sonargaon Hotel Ball room to officially announce the names of title
sponsor and co-sponsor for the inaugurate test. The maiden test between
Bangladesh and India will be named as Dutch-Bangla inaugural test match,
co-sponsored by Coca-Cola. Local Media Com Limited earned
the right of sponsorship as the highest bidder in a tender floated earlier
by BCB, said Saber Chowdhury said at the briefing. BCB earned Tk 68,25,000 from
the company, but they declined to give the breakup saying the Media Com
purchased the right as a package programme. BCB president said they are
grateful to this company, which has not kept much from the sponsorship
considering that Bangladesh is only an upcoming test nation. "They (Media Com) came
forward to support our nation’s cricketers," he said. Dutch-Bangla Bank managing
director Shawkat Ali and country manager of Coca-Cola Far East Limited PK
Chatterjee were present at the briefing. |
