Dhaka,---- Favorite England made a good batting practice against Bangladesh as they smashed the test babes by 8-wicket in the ICC Knockout Tournament at the Gymkhana ground in Nairobi yesterday (Thursday).

Bangladesh failed to make its first ever meeting with the English team competitive as the Britons burst the Bangladesh ordinary bowling attacks to chase the respectable total 232 runs for eight wickets in 50 overs.

Riding on a huge 175-run partnership between Alec Stewart and Nasir Hussain, England reached the winning target making 236 runs for two wickets with 6.1 overs remaining.

England captain Nasir Hussain returned to the pavilion offering a return catch to Mohammed Rafique with only five runs short of his maiden one-day century facing 120 balls.

Former English skipper and wicket keeper Stewart remained unbeaten with 87 runs off 112 balls while Hick was another not out batsman making 23 runs off 19 balls.

Opener Mark Trescothick scored 15 runs off 20 balls before being caught behind off pacer Hasibul Hossain Shanta, who was the most expensive bowler for Bangladesh giving 60 runs in 10 overs.

Earlier, A scintillating 63-run unbeaten knock by Javed Omar Belim steered test babe Bangladesh to make decent 232 runs against formidable England.

The calm opener, popularly known as a drowsy batsman, replied to his critics playing some magnificent shots off 84 balls with a superb straight six against medium pacer Alleayne.

This was Javed’s second half century in eleven one-day international matches. He had earlier made his best unbeaten 85 runs against Sri Lanka in the 7th Pepsi Asia Cup.

Bangladesh’s new captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy won the toss and decided to bat first as he thought the pitch of the Gymkhana ground in Nairobi was a batting track.

Two openers — Javed Omar and Al Shahriar Rokon — were struggling against the good English opening attacks comprising Andrew Caddick and Darren Gough.

Rokon looked shaky with his poor footwork and he returned to the pavilion making 13 runs off 43 balls. He was the first victim of lanky pacer Caddick offering a catch to Alleyne in mid-off.

Bangladesh fell into trouble after Javed was retired hurt with the scoreboard reading 34 runs for one wicket after a bouncer of Andrew Caddick hit his finger.

Former national captain Aminul Islam Bulbul and one down Habibul Bashar Sumon did their job but their 37-run association was broken when Sumon unfortunately fell victim of run out.

The right-handed Sumon ran to the striking end to take a second run steering the ball in deep third man but Bulbul carelessly denied it.

Bangladesh lost another quick wicket when Akram Khan was bowled by Ealham making only 6 runs off 10 balls.

Gulla again came out at the center after the dismissal of Aminul Islam Bulbul and contributed 64 runs with his captain Naimur Rahman Durjoy, who made second team highest 46 runs off 60 balls.

Durjoy brutally punished spinner Grime Hick in seventh over collecting 16 runs with a huge six over the mid wicket. The dashing batsman hit another six against White.

Aminul Islam Bulbul scored 30 runs off 54 runs before being caught by Caddick off Elham playing a mistimed shot.

Durjoy, his deputy Khaled Masud Pilot and Hasibul Hossain Shanta helped Bangladesh to manage 83 runs in last ten overs.

Wicket-keeper-cum-batsman Pilot hammered 17 runs off 11 balls with two sixes while Shanta added unbeaten 16 runs off 12 balls and he played a sixer in the last ball of the innings.

Gentle medium pacer Mark Elham was the most successful bowler for English side picking up three wickets for 48 runs while A Caddick G White claimed two wickets each for 35 and 45 runs respectively.
